Monitoring Internet Usage

If your staff are wasting time by using your Internet connection for personal use, or if they are downloading illegal or inappropriate material to your computer system, then you need to put in place the software tools to monitor and then stop behaviour.

By allowing internet usage to go unchecked you are inviting employees to be unproductive and install software that can threaten your network security. In our experience this type of behaviour can snowball if left unchecked and can often start when a new employee arrives. Such behaviour can become ‘the norm’ rather than a rarity unless it is halted promptly.

Our Solution

The best way to stop inappropriate internet usage is by means of Internet Access Monitoring and Control software that offers the following features:

Real Time Monitoring

See which websites your employees are visiting – at that monent in time. See what they are downloading and immediately block them from the your desk.

Time Based Policies

Set a time based policy so that employees have access to certain types of web sites at certain times of day or for a given amount of time per day. You could for example allow access to Facebook or BBC News only at lunchtimes – or at any time of day for a maximum of say one hour.

Bandwidth Based Policies

Set a bandwidth based policy so employees can download only a certain amount of data per month. All users could for example be allowed to download only 250 MB of data per week. After the limit is reached they are blocked until you grant them extra bandwidth… shortly after you have checked what they’ve been up to!

Category Based Policies

With category based policies you can allow a given employee access to particular types of web sites. You can for example block access to social networking sites, adult sites and shopping sites, but allow unlimited access to news and current affairs web sites. There are many categories to choose from and filter.

Worst Offender List

Use this feature to see which employees consistently attempt to breach your companies Internet usage policy – and give “training” (otherwise know as disciplinary action) where required!

Prevent Hidden Downloads

It is possible to download files from the Internet without actually requesting them. It is common for viruses and malware to be spread in this way and our software will help prevent this kind of download.

Whitelists and Blacklists

Use a whitelist to temporarily or permanently allow a given user unrestricted access to the Internet. Use a blacklist to cut off all Internet access for a given user altogether.

Faster Browsing with Proxy Caching

This term is used to describe the fact that the software saves (caches) regularly visited web pages on your server. This results in significantly faster web browsing on regularly used web sites, and reduced download of content from your ISP. This works for downloaded files too.

Extra Security with Download Scanning

Your antivirus software can only scan downloaded files after they have reached your computer. With automatic download scanning, downloaded files are put into a temporary location, scanned with at least two antivirus products and the ‘released’ for transfer to the netowrk only when the files have been checked for malware.

Extra Security with Anti Phishing Filters

Phishing websites are used to steal personal information such as usernames, passwords and credit card numbers. Often these sites look genuine but of course present a massive risk. The software protects users by blocking known phishing websites.
